How to Actually Train Players in Hockey Arena: A Deep Dive Into Attributes, Tactical Profiles, and Line Chemistry



If you've played Hockey Arena for any length of time, you already know the frustrating part: the game never hands you a manual explaining. This post is the result. It's long, because the topic deserves it. Grab a coffee.

Part 1: The Core Attributes, and What They Actually Do

Before you can train anyone intelligently, you need to know what each stat is actually doing in a match simulation, because the in-game tooltips barely scratch the surface.

Goalie is the raw save-probability stat for your keeper — it governs whether a shot gets stopped, whether a save produces a controlled rebound, and whether a catch turns into an outlet pass.

Speed does different jobs depending on position. For goalies, it's reaction time to the shot itself — arguably as important as the Goalie stat, since a slow-reacting keeper can't convert his raw ability into saves. For skaters, Speed affects how quickly a player gets to a loose puck, blocks shots, shoots, and dekes.

Passing, for goalies, doubles as rebound control — a low Passing goalie is more likely to spill a juicy rebound after a save. Currently this only affects friendly matches, not league games, so weight it accordingly. For skaters, Passing affects interception risk and the quality of scoring chances you set up for teammates.

Self-Control is a confidence/discipline stat. For goalies, it affects the chance of losing composure — and playing worse — after conceding three or more goals in a short span. For skaters, it affects how often they take undisciplined penalties.

Attack is the forward's central attribute. It contributes to faceoff wins, beating defenders one-on-one, playmaking, and — critically — it also feeds indirectly into shooting effectiveness. It's not an isolated "offense" number; it partially props up your Shooting stat too.

Shooting governs both finishing on net and the quality of passes to teammates in scoring position — another attribute that isn't as narrow as it first appears.

Strength is mainly about winning puck battles and knocking opponents off the puck. It matters most for centers and defensemen, who use it to physically move opponents toward or away from the net. It's a lower-priority stat for wingers.

Defense governs blocking and intercepting shots/passes, defending one-on-one moves, and clearing players from in front of the net (in combination with Strength).

Goalie weak spot: every goalie has a hidden weak spot in their net coverage. It's invisible to opponents unless they scout your keeper, but fully visible to you once you own him — use it to set tactics defensively for your own goalie, and to target opposing keepers offensively.

Part 2: How Training Rate Actually Works

This is the part most managers get wrong. Training isn't a flat "points per day" system — every skill has a hidden training percentage driving how fast it grows, and that percentage is generated by four factors:

  1. Quality — fixed permanently at player creation. This is the single most important number when scouting or promoting a young player, because no amount of stadium investment will make a low-Quality player train quickly. It never changes over a career.
  2. Potential — the skill ceiling, which also seems to influence training rate as the player ages.
  3. Age — younger players generally train faster.
  4. Training Facility + Regeneration Facility level at your stadium.

A player's displayed skill (e.g., "Goalie 45 (76%)") literally reflects this: the number after the decimal is the training percentage translated into partial skill points. Two players with identical raw skill numbers can be improving at wildly different rates depending on their Quality and your facilities.

Stadium implication: the Training Facility is arguably the single most important stadium investment, because every roster in your league is improving simultaneously — falling behind on facility level means your team gets relatively worse even if it's not getting worse in absolute terms. The Regeneration Facility acts as a secondary training multiplier. Conveniently, both are also among the cheapest stadium sections to upgrade and maintain, so there's rarely an excuse not to prioritize them early.

Part 3: Position Templates

Based on community consensus (this comes from a well-regarded older mini-guide, cross-checked against the wiki):

Part 4: Train in Phases, Not Fixed Ratios

One of the more useful practical rules I found: don't train a player with a static skill ratio across his entire career. Instead, shift priorities in three phases:

  • Phase I (under 21): Train primary attributes almost exclusively. Your goal here is simply to produce a starting-caliber player as fast as possible.
  • Phase II (21–24): Shift focus to the "special" secondary attributes — Passing and Self-Control. These are the stats that turn a raw scorer into a complete player.
  • Phase III (24+): Train primary and secondary attributes roughly equally. The player is close to his ceiling on the core stats, so marginal gains on the secondary side start to matter more per training point.

This also matches the goalie-specific logic: push Speed hard early (it's cheap to fix on a young keeper and caps your save rate if neglected), then shift weight toward Self-Control and Passing later in his career.

Part 5: Tactical Profiles — The Piece Most Managers Ignore

This is the section that changed how I think about the game. Every player has a Tactical Profile — separate from his raw attributes — that determines how well he fits a given role on a line. The percentages below show exactly which raw stats feed each profile, and how heavily.

The critical insight: Shooting doesn't appear at all in the Playmaker profile. A center with a weak Shot stat isn't necessarily a liability — it depends entirely on which tactical role you're building him for. A raw "Shot bottleneck" theory that circulated on my local community forum (the idea that a center's Shooting stat under a certain threshold caps the whole line's effectiveness regardless of the wingers) turns out to be better explained by profile mismatch: a center with high Attack/Strength but weak Shooting is a poor fit for a Power or Sniper role, but a perfect fit for Playmaker, where Shooting isn't weighted at all.

Part 6: Line Tactics Tie It All Together

Line-level tactics require specific tactical profiles at each position, and reward you with Chemistry — a stat that increases the chance of executing special, higher-percentage scoring tactics the longer a line plays together. Each tactic has a Max Chemistry ceiling determined by how well your players' profiles match what the tactic requires; changing tactics doesn't tank current chemistry instantly, but it lowers the ceiling and chemistry drifts down toward it over time.

There's a built-in rock-paper-scissors relationship between tactics (visible in the "Effective against" column), which means a well-run club shouldn't build all three lines around the same tactic — you want coverage across multiple styles so you're never caught flat-footed by a specific opposing setup.

A worked example: three-line club strategy

Line 1 — Behind the Net (offense-first): Sniper winger (Shooting 65/Attack 35 build) finishing off passes distributed by a Creative center (Passing-heavy, Shooting largely irrelevant), supported by a Power winger battling for pucks behind the net, with Blueliner defensemen adding secondary shot/pass threat from distance.

Line 2 — Checking (shutdown): Power/Speedy wingers, Power center, Pure defensemen. This is also the cheapest line to build from young academy prospects, since Pure defensemen only need two primary stats trained well.

Line 3 — Counter-attacks: Speedy wingers exploiting space after a turnover, a Playmaker center distributing off the rush, Creative defensemen (high Passing) initiating the transition.

Part 7: Special Teams Are a Different System Entirely

Here's a wrinkle worth flagging explicitly: Power Play and Penalty Kill units in Hockey Arena have no tactical profile option at all — I confirmed this directly in-game. That means PP/PK almost certainly bypass the Chemistry/tactical-profile system entirely and weight raw attributes directly, likely similarly to the simple additive tactic-slider system used for whole-match adjustments (where allocating points to an "Attack" slider grants every forward flat bonuses to Attack and Shooting).

Practical implication: don't worry about profile-fit when picking your PP/PK personnel. Just stack your best raw offensive stats (Attack, Shooting, Passing) on the Power Play unit, and your best raw defensive stats (Defense, Strength, Speed) on the Penalty Kill unit — profile labels are irrelevant there. This also means your top players, if they're used across the first line and both special-teams units, get double value from every attribute you train on them, not just the ones their line-tactic profile weights.

Part 8: The Youth Academy Detail Everyone Misses

One counterintuitive point from the community mini-guide: the size of your youth academy department does not influence the Quality or Potential of the prospects it generates — it only affects their raw AI at the point of promotion. A bigger academy gives you a more polished-looking player, but not necessarily a better one long-term. If you're optimizing for Quality/Potential (which, per Part 2, is what actually matters for lifetime training speed and ceiling), academy size isn't the lever to pull — general academy activity level seems to correlate more with generating good prospects than department size alone. Don't expect a truly elite prospect more than once every few seasons; solid-but-unspectacular prospects should arrive more regularly.

Summary Checklist

  • Check Quality before anything else when evaluating a young player — it's fixed for life and determines training speed.
  • Prioritize Training Facility + Regeneration Facility upgrades early; they're cheap and compound over every player's career.
  • Train primary attributes hard before 21, shift to secondary/special attributes 21–24, balance both after 24.
  • Match each player's build to a tactical profile, and only then decide his line tactic — not the other way around.
  • Build your three lines around different tactics so your club isn't one-dimensional and exploitable.
  • Remember PP/PK ignore tactical profiles entirely — just stack raw attributes there.
  • Don't over-invest in academy size if what you actually want is Quality/Potential.

If your club plays in a different league with different opposition tendencies, some of this — especially the three-line tactic split — is worth adjusting. But the underlying mechanics (training rate, tactical profiles, Chemistry) should hold regardless of where you play.

Hockey Arena Player Training Guide: Building Players for Tactical Roles

 


Training players in Hockey Arena can look deceptively simple at first.

A winger needs Offense and Shooting.
A center needs Offense and Passing.
A defenseman needs Defense and Strength.

That approach works reasonably well when you are starting out, but it leaves a lot of potential unused. Once tactical player profiles and line tactics are taken into account, player development becomes much more interesting. Instead of asking:

“What attributes does a winger need?”

the better question becomes:

“What kind of winger am I trying to build, and in which line tactic will he play?”

A Sniper winger, a Speedy winger and a Power winger may occupy exactly the same position on the lineup screen, yet require completely different training priorities.

This guide explains how to build players around those tactical profiles and how to create entire lines in which the players complement one another.


1. The Main Principle: Train Roles, Not Positions

The biggest mistake when developing players is treating every player at the same position in roughly the same way.

Two centers do not necessarily need the same attributes.

A center intended to play as a Playmaker may require large amounts of Offense and Passing while needing relatively little Shooting.

A center intended to play as a Power player needs a completely different distribution, with Strength becoming his dominant attribute.

Similarly, a winger designed as a Sniper should not be trained like a winger intended to play a Speedy role.

The basic development process should therefore be:

Line Tactic → Player Profile → Attribute Distribution → Training Plan

Not:

Position → Generic Attribute Template

That distinction is extremely important.


2. Offensive Tactical Profiles

The offensive player profiles provide a useful framework for deciding where training points should go.

Sniper

Profile weighting:

  • Shooting — 65%

  • Offense — 35%

The Sniper is the pure finisher.

Shooting dominates the profile, making it particularly suitable for players who will be expected to convert chances rather than create them.

A typical Sniper therefore concentrates heavily on:

Shooting > Offense

Passing, Strength and Speed can still have value during normal match situations, but they are not the defining skills of the tactical profile.

Ideal use

The most obvious candidate is an attacking winger with exceptionally high Shooting.

For example, if you are developing a winger toward roughly 400–500 total ability, you might eventually create something resembling:

  • Offense: 110

  • Shooting: 155

  • Passing: 50

  • Speed: 50

  • Strength: 25

  • Self-control: 35

These numbers are not universal targets. They illustrate the principle: a Sniper should have a visibly disproportionate amount of his development invested into Shooting.


3. Power

Profile weighting:

  • Strength — 60%

  • Offense — 40%

This is the physical attacking player.

Strength is substantially more important than Offense for the profile itself.

A Power player therefore follows something close to:

Strength > Offense

rather than the more balanced development usually associated with forwards.

Example build

A developing Power forward could look approximately like:

  • Strength: 140

  • Offense: 95

  • Speed: 45

  • Passing: 40

  • Shooting: 30

  • Self-control: 30

The profile can be useful for physical wingers or centers depending on the chosen line tactic.


4. Playmaker

Profile weighting:

  • Offense — 55%

  • Passing — 33%

  • Strength — 13%

The most interesting part of this profile is what is missing:

Shooting does not contribute to the tactical profile.

This makes the Playmaker one of the clearest examples of why generic positional training can waste ability points.

A center built specifically as a Playmaker does not necessarily need to become a good shooter.

Instead, his development can concentrate on:

Offense > Passing > Strength

A possible template might be:

  • Offense: 130

  • Passing: 90

  • Strength: 30

  • Speed: 45

  • Shooting: 25

  • Self-control: 30

The low Shooting number looks unusual if we think only in conventional positional terms.

It makes much more sense once we understand what the player is being trained to do.


5. Creative Forward

Profile weighting:

  • Passing — 40%

  • Offense — 40%

  • Speed — 20%

The Creative player is another playmaking archetype, but unlike the Playmaker profile, Strength is replaced by Speed.

The training priority becomes approximately:

Passing = Offense > Speed

This produces a mobile creator rather than a physically powerful one.

A possible Creative center might eventually look something like:

  • Offense: 130

  • Passing: 130

  • Speed: 65

  • Strength: 30

  • Shooting: 25

  • Self-control: 35

This type of player becomes particularly interesting in tactics built around puck movement and distribution.


6. Speedy

Profile weighting:

  • Speed — 65%

  • Offense — 35%

Speedy is essentially the skating equivalent of the Sniper profile.

Instead of concentrating heavily on Shooting, the player concentrates heavily on Speed.

The priority becomes:

Speed > Offense

A typical template could resemble:

  • Speed: 140

  • Offense: 75

  • Passing: 40

  • Strength: 30

  • Shooting: 40

  • Self-control: 30

This profile is particularly attractive for counter-attacking systems.


7. Defensive Player Profiles

Defensemen should also be developed according to their intended tactical role.

There is a major difference between a defensive shutdown player and an offensive defenseman expected to move the puck and shoot from distance.


Pure Defenseman

Profile weighting:

  • Defense — 60%

  • Strength — 40%

This is the traditional defensive specialist.

The player is built primarily around:

Defense > Strength

A possible template:

  • Defense: 130

  • Strength: 90

  • Passing: 40

  • Speed: 40

  • Shooting: 20

  • Self-control: 30

Because the profile relies mainly on two attributes, Pure defensemen can also be relatively straightforward players to develop.

They may therefore be interesting targets for younger players who have good Quality and Potential but are not yet highly developed.


8. Blueliner

The Blueliner is almost the opposite philosophy.

Profile weighting:

  • Defense — approximately 34%

  • Shooting — approximately 33%

  • Passing — approximately 33%

This produces an extremely balanced defenseman.

Instead of concentrating almost everything into Defense and Strength, the Blueliner combines:

Defense + Shooting + Passing

A possible build could be:

  • Defense: 100

  • Shooting: 95

  • Passing: 95

  • Speed: 40

  • Strength: 40

  • Self-control: 30

This player is therefore much more expensive to develop than a Pure defenseman because several important attributes have to be maintained simultaneously.

However, he can contribute to puck circulation and shots from the blue line in ways a defensive specialist cannot.


9. Why Shooting Is Not Automatically Necessary for Every Center

This deserves a separate section because it is one of the most common sources of confusion when analyzing Hockey Arena players.

Managers sometimes observe that lines containing centers with low Shooting seem weaker than lines whose centers have much higher Shooting.

It is tempting to conclude that every center therefore needs a minimum Shooting threshold.

The tactical profiles suggest a more complicated explanation.

Consider a Playmaker:

  • Offense: 55%

  • Passing: 33%

  • Strength: 13%

  • Shooting: 0%

Or a Creative player:

  • Passing: 40%

  • Offense: 40%

  • Speed: 20%

  • Shooting: 0%

From the perspective of those tactical profiles, investing heavily into Shooting would not directly improve the player's suitability for that particular role.

The important distinction is therefore between:

raw player attributes

and

the attributes emphasized by the tactical role.

A center with very high Offense and Passing but poor Shooting is not necessarily badly trained.

He may simply be a specialist.

Put him into the correct tactical role and his unusual attribute distribution starts to make sense.

Put him into a role requiring another profile and the same player may suddenly look inefficient.


10. Player Profiles Must Match the Line Tactic

This is where the system becomes much deeper.

You cannot simply develop five players according to their individually perfect profiles and expect them to form an optimal line.

The profiles must also fit the line tactic.

Different tactics expect different combinations of players.

This means team building works at two levels:

Individual level

Does the player's attribute distribution match his selected profile?

Line level

Do the five player profiles match the requirements of the chosen tactic?

Both matter.

A brilliant Playmaker may still be the wrong center for a tactic that expects a Sniper.


11. Chemistry and Tactical Compatibility

Line chemistry provides another reason why this matters.

A line tactic expects particular player profiles for its wings, center and defensemen.

How closely your players match those profiles influences the line's tactical compatibility and therefore its maximum chemistry potential.

Changing the tactic does not necessarily make accumulated chemistry disappear instantly, but if the new lineup is less compatible, the attainable chemistry ceiling can be lower and the line will gradually move toward that new level.

This creates an important long-term consequence:

You should think about your future line tactic before finishing the development of your players.

Otherwise you can spend seasons developing an excellent specialist only to discover that he does not fit the system you eventually want to use.


12. Example Line: Behind the Net

One particularly interesting attacking system is Behind the Net — BNE.

Its profile structure allows the following types of players:

Wings

Sniper or Power

Center

Creative

Defensemen

Blueliner

This creates a very logical hockey structure.

The center becomes the main distributor.

A Sniper wing becomes the finisher.

A Power wing supplies physical presence.

The Blueliners support possession and can contribute from distance.


13. Example BNE Line Build

A possible complete BNE line could therefore look like this.

Wing 1 — Sniper

Role: primary finisher

Approximate development:

  • Shooting: 155

  • Offense: 110

  • Passing: 50

  • Speed: 50

  • Strength: 25

  • Self-control: 35

The majority of premium training goes into Shooting.


Wing 2 — Power

Role: physical attacking support

Approximate development:

  • Strength: 140

  • Offense: 95

  • Speed: 45

  • Passing: 40

  • Shooting: 30

  • Self-control: 30

This player gives the line a completely different dimension from the Sniper despite occupying the same nominal position.


Center — Creative

Role: main distributor

Approximate development:

  • Shooting: 25

  • Self-control: 35

This is the perfect example of a center who can intentionally have poor Shooting.

His job is not primarily to finish chances.

His job is to create them.


Defenseman 1 — Blueliner

Role: puck movement and outside shooting

Approximate development:

  • Defense: 100

  • Shooting: 95

  • Passing: 95

  • Speed: 40

  • Strength: 40

  • Self-control: 30


Defenseman 2 — Blueliner

The second defenseman can follow approximately the same structure.

Small differences are perfectly reasonable depending on the player's starting attributes and training efficiency.

There is no need to force two naturally different prospects into completely identical numerical builds.


14. Example Line: Checking

The Checking — CHE tactic is designed around physical play.

The required profiles are approximately:

Wings

Power or Speedy

Center

Power

Defensemen

Pure

This makes it ideal for a physical shutdown line.

A sample construction could be:

The result is a line designed less around elegant scoring combinations and more around physical disruption and defensive pressure.


15. Example Line: Counter-Attacks

The Counter-Attacks — CA tactic offers another completely different development philosophy.

Its profiles include approximately:

Defensemen

Creative or Pure

The logic is obvious.

The team defends, waits for the opponent to make a mistake and then transitions rapidly toward the opposing goal.

The defensemen recover possession.

The center distributes the puck.

The fast wings attack the available space.


16. Example Counter-Attacking Line

Wing A — Speedy

  • Speed: 140

  • Offense: 75

  • Passing: 40

  • Strength: 30

  • Shooting: 40

  • Self-control: 30

Defenseman 2 — Creative

A similar structure can be used, although differences caused by the player's natural development are perfectly acceptable.

This creates perhaps the clearest example of specialized team building:

fast wings + distributing center + puck-moving defensemen.


17. Building Three Different Lines

Once these concepts are understood, you do not necessarily need to build three identical scoring lines.

A more sophisticated club could develop different units for different purposes.

For example:

This creates considerably more tactical flexibility.

Your first line might contain your elite Sniper.

Instead of asking which five players have the highest Ability Index, you begin asking which five players form the best tactical unit.

That is much closer to the philosophy of a true hockey management game.


18. Tactical Counters

Line tactics also interact with opposing tactics.

Examples include:

  • Checking being effective against Short Passes

  • Counter-Attacks being effective against Checking

  • Behind the Net being effective against Pressing

This adds another reason not to construct every line identically.

If all your best players are designed for exactly the same tactical system, an opponent who finds a good counter can cause serious problems.

Multiple line archetypes give you more options.

A club containing BNE, CHE and CA units can theoretically approach different matchups in very different ways.


19. Do Not Completely Ignore Secondary Skills

There is an important warning here.

The percentages attached to tactical profiles should not automatically be interpreted as saying that every other attribute is useless.

If Shooting is absent from a Playmaker profile, that means it does not contribute to that particular tactical profile calculation.

It does not necessarily mean that Shooting can never influence another event during a match.

The same applies to attributes such as:

  • Self-control

  • Strength

  • Speed

  • Passing

  • Shooting

depending on the player and situation.

Secondary skills can still influence other parts of the simulation.

For that reason, I would not recommend taking specialization to absurd extremes.

A Playmaker does not need to become a great shooter.

That does not necessarily mean keeping Shooting permanently at the absolute minimum is optimal either.

Think in terms of:

primary skills → secondary skills → luxury skills

rather than:

useful skills → useless skills.


20. Training Efficiency Still Matters

The ideal tactical build also has to be adjusted to the individual player.

Two prospects with the same eventual role should not always receive identical training.

Consider:

  • current attributes

  • Quality

  • Potential

  • age

  • remaining development time

  • training efficiency

  • current Ability Index

If your young Sniper already has unusually high Shooting but mediocre Offense, it may be more efficient to spend the next development period correcting Offense instead of blindly continuing Shooting.

Templates should therefore be treated as destinations, not rigid weekly training instructions.


21. Keep Energy Under Control

Player development is not isolated from match management.

If players are being overused and their Energy falls too far, training efficiency can suffer.

A practical target is to avoid repeatedly exhausting your most important developing players.

Having three functioning lines helps here because ice time can be distributed more reasonably.

This is particularly important for young high-Quality players: losing significant development because they are constantly exhausted can cost far more in the long term than the small short-term advantage gained by overplaying them.


22. How I Would Develop a Young Player

When I receive a promising youngster, my development process would now look something like this.

Step 1 — Examine his natural strengths

Does he already lean toward:

  • Shooting?

  • Speed?

  • Strength?

  • Passing?

  • Defense?

Do not automatically fight the player's natural distribution.


Step 2 — Decide his tactical role

Examples:

  • Sniper

  • Speedy

  • Power

  • Playmaker

  • Creative

  • Pure

  • Blueliner


Step 3 — Decide which line tactic can use him

This is crucial.

A great Sniper is only valuable to your tactical project if the line you are building can actually use a Sniper in that position.


Step 4 — Identify the core attributes

For example:

Sniper

Shooting + Offense

Playmaker

Offense + Passing + some Strength

Creative forward

Passing + Offense + Speed

Pure defenseman

Defense + Strength

Blueliner

Defense + Shooting + Passing


Step 5 — Train toward the ratio rather than an arbitrary number

Instead of saying:

Every winger needs 150 Shooting.

ask:

How much Shooting should this particular Sniper have relative to his Offense and total Ability?

That produces much more efficient players.


Step 6 — Maintain useful secondary attributes

Do not spend half the player's Ability Index on skills irrelevant to his role.

But do not completely destroy his overall usefulness simply to create a beautiful profile percentage.


Step 7 — Reassess regularly

Players rarely develop exactly as planned.

After another 30, 50 or 100 Ability Index points, reconsider:

  • Is the original role still optimal?

  • Has one attribute become disproportionately high?

  • Would another tactical profile now suit him better?

  • Does your club still need the same type of player?

Development should remain flexible.


23. The Bigger Lesson

The biggest lesson from the Hockey Arena tactical system is that Ability Index alone does not tell the whole story.

Imagine two 450 AI forwards.

Player A has reasonably balanced attributes.

Player B has been deliberately constructed as a Sniper, with enormous Shooting and enough Offense to support it.

They may have exactly the same total Ability Index.

Yet if your line requires a Sniper, Player B may be dramatically more useful.

The same applies to a 450 AI Playmaker whose Shooting appears suspiciously low.

If the player has invested those points into Offense and Passing instead, his unusual build may actually be evidence of good management rather than bad training.

The question is never simply:

“How high are his attributes?”

It is:

“Are his training points invested in attributes that help him perform the job I want him to perform?”


24. Example Club Development Philosophy

Putting everything together, a long-term club could work toward something like this:

First Line — Behind the Net

  • LW: Sniper

  • RW: Power

  • C: Creative

  • D: Blueliner

  • D: Blueliner

Purpose: offensive production and chance creation.


Second Line — Checking

  • LW: Power

  • RW: Speedy

  • C: Power

  • D: Pure

  • D: Pure

Purpose: physical pressure and defensive disruption.


Third Line — Counter-Attacks

  • LW: Speedy

  • RW: Speedy

  • C: Playmaker

  • D: Creative

  • D: Creative

Purpose: defend first, then attack rapidly after turnovers.


This gives the roster three very different tactical identities.

And because the required attributes are also different, it creates something else that is extremely useful:

more types of prospects become valuable.

A youngster with huge Speed but mediocre Shooting can become a Speedy winger.

A physically gifted forward can become Power.

A defenseman with excellent Passing and Shooting can become a Blueliner.

A young defender with Defense and Strength but little attacking talent can become Pure.

Instead of searching endlessly for perfectly balanced superstars, you can build a club from specialists.


 


Final Thoughts

Player training in Hockey Arena becomes much more interesting once you stop looking at positions in isolation.

The real development hierarchy is:

Tactic → Tactical Profile → Attribute Distribution → Training

A winger is not simply a winger.

He might be a Sniper who lives through Shooting, a Speedy forward built around skating, or a Power player whose greatest weapon is Strength.

A center does not automatically require massive Shooting.

A Playmaker may be much more valuable with those Ability Index points invested into Offense and Passing.

And a defenseman does not automatically need to be a defensive wall. A Blueliner can sacrifice some physical specialization in exchange for Passing and Shooting.

That also means there is probably no single perfect Hockey Arena player build.

There are only players who are more or less appropriate for the job you want them to perform.

And that, in my opinion, is the most useful principle when planning long-term training:

Do not train the player first and search for his role later. Decide what you want the player to become, then train him for that purpose.
